WHERE IS MERIMBULA?
Merimbula is located in the heart of the Sapphire Coast, 454 km south of Sydney via the Princes Highway A1 and 588kms North East of Melbourne via the Princes Highway A1, or 522 km north of Melbourne via the Hume Motorway, Canberra and Cooma. Merimbula is 243km from Canberra, the nation’s capital.
Set on the edge of beautiful Merimbula Lake, the nomadic Yuin Aboriginal people lived on country that includes the town we now call Merimbula. Around the several lagoons in the area, you will find many middens, created by the Aboriginals as they fished for oysters and made their tools.
A popular holiday destination since the 1960's, activities are centred around the proximity to many impressive beaches, lakes and lagoons with several National Parks surrounding the area, preserving it's natural beauty for generations to come and offering endless places to explore and an abundance of birds and wildlife.
